At Penn, Musk studied physics and economics, earning two bachelor's degrees. After the sale of PayPal, Musk founded SpaceX, a private space exploration company, with the goal of making space travel accessible to the general public. In 2008, SpaceX became the first privately-funded company to send a spacecraft to the International Space Station. SpaceX has since developed and launched a variety of rockets and spacecraft, and is working on developing a reusable spacecraft that could drastically reduce the cost of space travel.

In addition to SpaceX, Musk also founded Tesla Motors, a company that designs and manufactures electric cars.
